Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Open to: Sophomores and Juniors
Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in the development of gravitational-wave astronomy through the LIGO Project. This intensive summer program takes place each year at Caltech, funded in part through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program of the National Science Foundation. Undergraduate students from all institutions (both U.S. and foreign) are invited to apply to the LIGO Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Research awards include a summer stipend and some funding for travel to Caltech as needed.

ThaiREU in Organic Chemistry Research Project Descriptions
Open to: Juniors and Seniors
Study Organic Chemistry in THAILAND

Organization for Tropical Studies REU Program in Costa Rica
Open to: Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors
The OTS Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) was designed for advanced biology students interested in conducting field research under the supervision of an experienced tropical ecologist.

The Svalbard Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
Open to: Juniors
The REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program was established by the National Science Foundation to encourage and fund student research opportunities in a wide variety of fields. This REU program focuses on understanding how high latitude glaciers, melt-water streams, and sedimentation in lakes and fjords respond to changing climate.

Caltech - LIGO Summer Undergraduate Research Program
Open to: Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors
The LIGO Project is an NSF-supported endeavor to design, build, and operate an astrophysical observatory for the detection and study of gravitational radiation.  Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in the development of gravitational-wave astronomy through the LIGO Project.

The Molecular Physics Laboratory at SRI International Research Experience for Undergraduate Students
Open to: Undergraduates
SRI is a nonprofit research organization located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.  The scientists' work covers a wide range of topics in the areas of atomic, molecular, and optical physics as well as many areas extending into chemical physics, physical chemistry, and solid state physics.

NNIN Research Experience for Undergraduates
Open to: Undergraduates
The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) conducts one of the largest and most successful Research Experience for Undergraduates Programs in nanotechnology.  Students are assigned to a specific research project and will make a meaningful research contribution to their research group.

New York University's School of Medicine Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)
Open to: Sophomores and Juniors
In most instances, students are matched with an investigator of their choice.  Otherwise they are placed in a laboratory working in an area of the student's stated interest. Each student is given his/her own project and is expected to perform as a graduate student.

CERN Summer Student Lecture Program
Open to: Juniors
Students selected for the program will spend from the first week of June to the first week of August working with active research groups at CERN, one of the world's premier international laboratories.

Summer Medical and Dental Education Program
Open to: Freshmen and Sophomores
SMDEP is implemented at 12 program sites across the nation. Each program site provides scholars with academic enrichment in the basic sciences and math, clinical experiences, career development activities, learning and study skills seminars and a financial planning workshop.

U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research, Global Change Education Program
Open to: Sophomores and Juniors
Global change research encompasses a number of technical areas, including atmospheric sciences, ecology, global carbon cycles, climate, and terrestrial processes.  SURE's primary goal is to involve undergraduate students at the end of their sophomore or junior year in BER-supported global change research.
