OUSTED: African Americans Dismissed from Native American Nations A presentation on race, identity and multicultural histories by Snite Museum Art Curator Bethany Montagano. This presentation will explore the Cherokee nation's controversial decision to make "Indian Blood" a requirement for citizenship in 2007. The policy ultimately stripped tribal citizenship from almost 3,000 descendents of African American slaves owned by the Cherokee. the matter has exploded into an all out blood war, as tensions over race and tribal citizenship continue to rise. The presentation will conclude with a discussion about how these current events speak to a larger conundrum facing biracial and multiracial persons; especially who I am - who gets to decide - and where and to whom do I belong? Wednesday, November 4, 2009 5:30 p.m. Geddes Hall, Center for Social Concerns Coffeehouse Please RSVP by Monday, November 2nd to msps@nd.edu with "Interrace" in the subject line or call 574-631-6841.
