The Breaking Through Barriers program is a confidence-building program that creates a "success model" primarily for underrepresented students, encouraging students to acquire life-long skills necessary for gainful employment.
The programs' aim is to identify, develop, and reinforce critical job survival skills such as resume writing, interviewing, business etiquette, and skills assessment.
Among other things, students who participate in the Breaking Through Barriers Program will assess personal values related to career decision-making processes, create and then modify a working resume/curriculum vita, identify and demonstrate behavior based interviewing techniques, practice professional and dining etiquette, participate and critique others in mock job interviews, and develop relationships with potential employers.
