Nationals (Reno, NV) April
6-8, 2000
| Competing in the national championships, the
men's volleyball team posted a record of 2-5 for the
weekend. In opening round action, Penn narrowly defeated Notre
Dame, 16-25, 35-33, 18-16. Notre Dame then fell to Cal State-Sacramento
25-14, 25-13. After dropping another tight three game
contest to Tennessee, 25-18, 20-25, 16-14, the Irish
defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 25-23, 25-19.
A third match that could have gone either way saw Notre Dame lose yet
another close match to Colorado State 25-20, 17-25, 15-12. The netters
closed the tournament by splitting their last two contests, beating Army
before succumbing to Wisconsin. |

Conference Tournament March
24-25, 2000
| The volleyball club finished prepping for the
upcoming Midwest Intercollegiates and nationals by splitting four games at
Indiana's Hoosier Invitational. The club opened with a 25-13, 25-17
victory over Illinois Wesleyan before dropping matches to Team Root 25-19,
25-21, and Kendall University 19-25, 25-21, 15-11. Notre Dame closed the
competition by defeating Ball State 25-17, 25-21. |

Hoosier Invitational February
26, 2000
| Notre
Dame went 2-2 at the Hoosier Invitational defeating Illinois Wesleyen and
Ball State 2, while dropping matches to Team Root and Kendall. |

Moraine
Valley College Match February
22, 2000
| The
Irish remained undefeated at home this year by defeating Moraine Valley
College, bringing their home record to 1-0 on the year. In a long
five game match, the Irish were able to pull out a victory with a total
team effort, with everyone making valuable contributions. |

Midwest
10 Conference Tournament February

9, 2000
| Notre Dame went 2-3 on the day at the Midwest
Ten Conference Tournament, and ended up tying for 5th place while missing
all their juniors who were attending Junior Parents Weekend. They
finished off Midwest Ten conference play by defeating Calvin, and then
dropping matches to Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Iowa State. This resulted
in finishing Conference Play with a 4-5 record, which seeded them
seventh. After developing more team chemistry as the day went on,
the team won its opening round match vs. Calvin, and then was knocked out
of the tournament in the quarter-finals by Marquette. |

Western
Michigan University Match (Observer)

| The men's volleyball club dropped a
well-played match to Western Michigan last week. Although missing
more than half the team including three key starters, the club was in each
game, succumbing 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, in rally scoring. Mike Griggs
had an outstanding match, playing out of position with so many missing
teammates. The club returns to divisional championship play this weekend. |

Michigan University Match

Notre
Dame traveled to play Western Michigan University for a Wednesday night
match, dropping the match to the Broncos in three games (19-25, 23-25,
23-25). Despite missing three regular Irish starters out with
injuries, the team fought hard throughout the match. Next up for the
gimped Irish squad is the Midwest 10 Conference Tournament at Marquette.

Classic Summary

The
Michigan Classic was anything but for the Men's Volleyball Club. Having
already won more matches than all of last year, the Irish hoped to build
on momentum gained from last week's victories over Miami (Ohio), Illinois
State and Marquette. However, a subpar performance resulted in losses to
Navy, 25-19, 25-23; Kentucky, 25-23, 18-25, 15-17; Northwestern, 25-14,
25-14; and Graceland, 25-15, 25-11. The B team fared much better,
defeating Michigan, Penn State - Altoona and Grand Rapids, before falling
to Michigan State. Next up for the netters is a Midwest 10 tournament at
Marquette in three weeks.

Michigan Classic Division I

At
the University of Michigan Classic Division I tournament, the men's
volleyball team dropped four matches during pool play. The Irish
faced a strong field of teams in their pool, suffering losses to Navy
(Ranked #25 Nationally in Pre-season rankings), Kentucky (#22),
Northwestern, and Graceland (#2). The team has the next two weekends
off before heading to Marquette University for the Midwest 10 Conference
Tournament February 19-20. Scores from the Michigan Classic are

Michigan Classic Division II
Results - University of Michigan

28, 2000
The
Irish Division II team performed very well tying for third out of a field
of 12 teams at the University of Michigan Classic Division II Tournament.
They defeated Penn State - Altoona in an exciting three game match, along
with Michigan - Maize (2-0), and Grand Rapids Community College (2-0) to
win their pool. This gave them the second seed in the playoffs. They
eventually lost in the semi-finals to Michigan State University - White in
three close games. Scott
Hapeman, the setter for the Irish, was named to the all-tournament

Midwest
10 Conference Play Results - University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
January
22, 2000
The men's
volleyball team started out conference play with a 3-3 finish at the
University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. The team defeated Miami (OH) and
Illinois State in two games, and also posted a win over Marquette (Ranked
#19 Nationally in Pre-season rankings) in three games. The team
suffered losses in three games to each of the following teams: Western
Michigan, Northern Illinois (#20), and the University of Wisconsin -
Milwaukee (#13). The conference tournament will be hosted at
Marquette, the weekend of February 19-20. Scores from conference

State Invitational Summary

a disappointing 2-4 mark at the Michigan State Invitational. Starting
