Abstract

This project’s goal was to develop game rules and a prototype that demonstrate fundamental features of an entertaining robotic football competition that will encourage interest in science and engineering. A quarterback was prototyped that demonstrates the feasibility of the launching mechanism and the execution of set plays to a targeted position. Using a microcontroller and differential steering, the quarterback is able to execute set plays by moving forward and backward, performing zero-radius turns, and then aiming and firing a projectile from an air cannon. Upon execution of a play, the quarterback returns to its original position and awaits another play.
