Design problem:
Portable Wind Energy System: A compact, portable and robust wind energy system will be designed to
extract wind energy and convert it to storable, electric energy source. The design teams will select a DC
"generator" from a specific list of available generators and design a portable and easily deployable windpowered
electric power source. The system should be able to extract enough energy from a wind that is
nominally 15 mph (wind speed can vary over a 24 hr. period from 0 to 30 mph so the system would need a
"storage" capability) to power an emergency communication system with a 20 watt at 12 volts DC continuous
performance requirement.. The entire system must be able to be packaged in a way that it can be carried on
either a person's back or "dropped" from an helicopter from an altitude of 20ft. without a parachute.
