PURE is currently dedicated to designing and prototyping a pedal-powered device that converts human-power into electrical-power for use in third world countries. Our target market is governments or other relief organizations that would purchase this power generator for distribution in appropriate areas. Our preliminary design is shown below. Two bikes will be used to turn the input shafts (traditionally the output shafts) of a differential. The differential's output shaft (traditionally the input shaft) will turn the shaft of a generator. The generator will be used to produce electricity (for demonstration it will heat a heating element that will boil water). Moreover, the bicycles will be removable from the prototype to provide transportation for its users when not producing electricity. |
