Mathematics Students Present Research at College of Science Joint Annual Meeting |
As part of the University of Notre Dame's Undergraduate Scholars Conference, six undergraduates in the Department of Mathematics shared their original research during the College of Science Joint Annual Meeting (COS JAM) in the Jordan Hall of Science on May 1st.
Hundreds of students and visitors attended the annual College of Science event. Across the College of Science, fifty-one undergraduates gave oral presentations and forty-six gave poster presentations. In the Department of Mathematics, Jon Poelhuis, Genevieve Dupuis, Peter Kelly, Andy Manion, Michelle Maurin and Daniel Moeller presented their research on a variety of topics from fair pricing of options to Reimann surfaces in projective space.
"We want to be more than absorbers of knowledge in undergraduate research," Greg Crawford, dean of the College of Science, told the crowd in the Galleria at the end of the poster session. "We want to be creators of knowledge." Presenters said the research opportunities have inspired them to consider more hands-on work in their careers.
