Treasury of Novenas

Divine Mercy On Good Friday, 1937, Jesus requested
Blessed Faustina to make a special novena before the Feast of Mercy, from
Good Friday through the following Saturday. He, Himself dictated the intentions
for each day. By means of a specific prayer she was to bring to His Heart
a different group of souls each day and thus immerse them in the ocean
of His mercy, begging the Father--on the strength of Jesus' Passion--for
graces for them.

Saint Joseph The feast
of Saint Joseph is on March 19. As foster-father of Jesus, he is a powerful
intercessor for those in need.

Miraculous Medal
The Miraculous Medal image was given to Saint Catherine Laboure on November
27, 1830 by Our Blessed Mother. Mary asked Saint Catherine to have a medal
struck in this image and people should wear it around their neck. If they
did this, they would be granted special graces. The prayer surrounding
Mary on the medal, "O Mary, conceived without original sin, pray for us
who have recourse to thee", is to be recited daily with devotion. Originally
called the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, the medal is now known as
the Miraculous Medal because of the large number of miracles attributed
to the wearing of it.

The Miraculous Novena of
Grace This Novena, which begins on March 4th and ends March 12th, the
day of the canonization of Saint Francis Xavier, owes its origin to the
Saint himself. At Naples, in December, 1633, Father Marcello Mastrilli,
S.J. was at the point of death. The Saint appeared to him and, bidding
him renew a vow he had made to labor in Japan, said: "All those who implore
my help daily for nine consecutive days, from the 4th to the 12th of March
included, and worthily receive the Sacraments of Penance and the Holy Eucharist
on one of the nine days, will experience my protection and may hope with
entire assurance to obtain from God any grace they ask for the good
of their souls and the glory of God." Father Marcello Mastrilli, S.J.,
was instantly cured after saying this. So well has Saint Francis Xavier
kept this promise that this devotion in his honor became universally known
as the Novena of Grace. Its efficacy is not restricted to the dates mentioned.
Also recommended it Nov. 25 - Dec. 3, the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier.
