About MAES/SHPE

The University of Notre Dame chapter of MAES/SHPE is a club working in conjunction with two national organizations. These two organizations are:

bullet The Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists(MAES)
bullet The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers(SHPE)

Our name was derived by combining the acronyms used by each club. The goal of both clubs is to increase the number of minority students, especially Mexican and Hispanic, entering into highly technical fields such as Engineering and Science.

Objectives

At the University of Notre Dame, we focus our efforts on four main areas:

  1. Increasing the number of minority science and engineering students at the University of Notre Dame
  2. The retention of minority students already enrolled in fields of engineering and science
  3. Promoting the advancement and improvement of minority science and engineering students in education and employment by fostering cooperation among industry, government, and the academic and professional commentates.
  4. Providing a forum for counseling, financial assistance, and the exchange of important information between all minority engineering and science students at the University of Notre Dame and elsewhere.
