Agrippina was said to have been a beautiful blonde princess. Some say she was killed by Valerian in 256 A.D for resisting his advances. There is speculation that Bassa, Paula, and Agathonice, the three women who transported Agrippina's body from Rome to Mineo, were in fact her three sisters.
The tale of this journey is full of the miracles: the fragrances that accompanied the body of St. Agrippina wherever she went, the veneration of the sailors and farmers, the miraculous light weight of the reliquary so that three young girls could carry it, the quickness of the voyage from Rome to Sicily. Clouds were said to cover the girls and transport them and the relics during times of danger in the journey. An angel supposedly protected them from all harm. Devils were said to be cast out of bodies at the mere sight of the reliquary. They arrived in Mineo on Wednesday May 17, 261 A.D.
