SOER Minutes 11/08/02

Members present: Tom Lehman, Mary Lehman, Kathie Ryan-Zeugner, Mark
Dehmlow, Charlotte Ames, Carole Richter-Pilkinton, Cheri Smith.

Tom and Cheri shared initial results from our user testing. We wanted to
run a few user tests so we could determine any problems with the questions
being used for the user testing. Results were fairly positive. It is
clear that there are some naming/labelling issues that need to be
addressed. It also seems possible that there are users who may need a
little more direction than the demo gateway provides. For instance,
something that tells them were to go to look for journal articles from the
start. The left navigation menu worked very well during user testing. Tom
demonstrated a second version of the gateway that guides users a little bit
more:

It was decided that doing user testing for both gateways would be beneficial.

There was a brief discussion of the relationship between MyLibrary and the
Gateway. It is generally felt that information gathered from user studies
conducted for both groups will be beneficial for the entire library
cite. It is hoped that we will be able to merge content issues examined by
both groups into a better cite overall. Members on SOER who are on the
MyLibrary group will keep SOER abreast of MyLibrary activities.

Other issues brought up: It was suggested that we try to think of
something more descriptive than "Electronic Resources" to describe the
gateway. We also discovered some bizarre problems with the word "The" in
Aleph.

Respectfully Submitted,
Cheri Smith
