We had a meeting on Wednesday to figure out who was going to do what (you may remember this as you were there). Demian, Mike and I met again on Thursday to make our "final" schedule. This should be on the web - or emailed to you - or both. As you can see, our first deadline is on Oct. 10 (check this to make sure). At that time, Demain plans on having a working pump, Mike a sound solution to the water passage problem, and I a working purifying system that takes some impurity out of the water. The rest of the deadlines are on the schedule.

I (Wendy) had some trouble looking for possible equipment. I went to the Chemistry Stockroom (on the ground floor of the Chem. Building) and the guy in charge there wouldn't let me look around (he said students could do that - not even if he went with me and regardless of the reason). So I don't exactly know what equipment we (ND) have here. I also don't know what equipment I'll need yet. I am going to talk to some CHEG professors tomorrow and see if there is some way that we can filter a solid sludge without our filter getting clogged up (I definitely think this is the best type of impurity to have - it seems more "real life"). If these professors can't think of a way, I'll ask them about the chlorine idea. I know that one can get chlorine pellets for pools at the store, but I'm not sure that one can get such a scaled-down amount. Regardless, I'm hoping we can find a way to do the filter idea. If we do attempt this idea, pH won't matter so we won't need that pH meter.

There are some things that I will almost definitely need, though:

  1. Tubing (check the size with Demian - see what he thinks he can get his pump to move)
  2. AT LEAST one graduated cylinder (I actually wanted one with a nozzle at the bottom but I don't think we can get those - I know the stockroom here doesn't have them)
  3. Actually, I'll definitely have to talk to my professors before I commit myself to needing any more equipment.
  4. O.K. - my question for [Dr. Brockman]--how quickly can you get the stuff that we'll need?
Finally, we're going to meet again on Tuesday at 4:30 to see how things are going for everybody.
