Week 3 Status Report
We are well on our way now. The stirring mechanism is complete at a cost of $203. We will try to reduce that if possible. The mechanism for raising and lowering the tube to the Na2CO3 solution is now at a cost of $320, but we think we will have to alter it somewhat this week to make it more stable. We may use duck tape to help doing that.
The pH sensor is now operational. It was a decent challenge to calibrate it. We had to use a volt meter and treat the pH meter like a temperature sensor. The function we use had to be converted to a Taylor's Series due to the inability of the Lego's software to compute logarithms.
We are working as a team more now. The pump and raising and lower mechanisms are all combined now into a system. The software needs some work. We would like to make the user interface a little bit easier to see with perhaps a graph and a big display of the current pH.
