Craig's Music Favorites

I like to think that I am very open-minded about the music I listen to. I enjoy a wide variety, from country (only a little) all the way to hard rock, but my favorite type these days is jazz. Actually, some of the music I would fit in this category probably deserves to be called funk or something a little more up-beat. I also like blues, though, Stevie Ray Vaughan and a lesser known local blues guitarist (who I saw at Penn State Arts Fest) named Jimmy Thackery.

Here are a couple of my favorite CDs (the recent ones, at least):

Dave Matthews Band - Crash, Under the Table and Dreaming, Two Things - I think Dave Matthews Band has to be my all-time favorite band. They have a cool, jazzy sound with mostly pretty positive, happy songs. Good mixture of all instruments, including horns and some good bass tracks. The Two Things album is a live album and is pretty mellow, good work or concentration music, while the Under the Table and Dreaming CD has a little more up-beat pace. The Crash CD has a wide variety of songs (more so than the other albums) which take some getting used to but I enjoy them tremendously now.
TLC - CrazySexyCool - This is the first rap - like CD I have really bought, with the exception of the MTV parties to go. I really am starting to get into it and enjoy it a lot - this is a really good album, with many tracks which were already out on the radio, so it was not a huge shock...
Big Head Todd (& the Monsters) - Sister Sweetly - This is some really cool bluesy music which has a good, homegrown quality to it. There are a couple of these songs that I can play on the guitar, even though they are somewhat difficult.
No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom - This band is a little weird, but they have a very cool sound, kind of similar to the Mighty, Mighty Bostones. It is mostly a very cool baseline and good use of horns to give it a little jazzy feel.
Just went to a Noubt Doubt concert here in Dallas, and shortly before went and bought some of the other albums!! I am now an official No Doubt junkie!!!
Live - Mental Jewelry - This album is a little less intense than "Throwing Copper", which I also like, but it has become a little too heavy for my present taste. It does bring back some good memories.
Maria Carey - Daydream - I got this album for a couple of the good songs, and found out that most of the other music on the disc was a little light and flaky. There were a couple of good songs that were not released (yet) on the radio, though.
Maria Carey - Unplugged - I have waited a long time before buying this disc, but I really do like it. For a while there, it was getting a little over-played on the radio, but now it is back to normal. I still get goose-bumps when I listen to some of the tunes on a nice stereo.
MTV Party to Go - Volume 6 - This album I first heard in Puerto Rico when visiting a friend. I recognized most of the songs as ones that I liked, but didn't want to buy all those CDs. The MTV Party to Go discs are good (sometimes) for only having good tunes that we are familiar with. This disc is my favorite of all the MTV Parties to Go and includes quite a bit of good car-cruising music.
Pearl Jam - Ten - This album has always been a favorite of mine and it never seems to get old for me. It brings back good memories of my Freshman year at Notre Dame -- wild times!! Anyway, a good all-around-album. Easily the best of Pearl Jam's work. I have the other CDs of theirs, but none of them compare.
