Value of the Technic Sets I Have

Aside from a couple slight variations, the Lego Technic sets I own have about the same price per piece. It works out to an average of about 11.37 cents per piece. Some of the sets have more specialized parts, which raises this number toward 79.5 cents per piece in the case of the 8720 9 Volt Power Pack set, or 15.45 cents per piece in the case of the 8824 Hovercraft set, where some have more general parts which lowers the value toward 7.69 cents per piece in the case of the 8857 Street Chopper set. Sometimes, however, the set price is more determined by the fact that they are rounded to the nearest whole dollar (as in the Shock Cycle, Sky Ranger, and Street Chopper, all rounded toward $29).

The following chart should clarify, in order from best to worst value (although understandably so...)

As you can see from the following graphs, there is a proportionality shown between Lego set price and the number of included pieces;

This figure shows price of the sets as a function of the number of parts. The one set which seems too expensive is in the upper left corner - the 8720 9 Volt Power Pack - Understandably more expensive (per piece) than the average Technic set.

This figure has labeled all of the Technic sets for easy reference. As you can see, the Shock Cycle, Sky Ranger, and Street Chopper have the same price, with a slight difference in the number of pieces included.

This figure includes the 8880 Super Car Technic and the 8480 Space Shuttle sets, giving a more general view of all of the sets I own. Again the rather expensive (per piece) set - the 8720 9 Volt Power Pack Technic set - is in the upper left corner.

All sets are labeled for reference.

This figure shows that with the exception of the 8720 9 Volt Power Pack Technic set, all sets have about the same average cost (cents / piece).

All sets are labeled for reference.

Same as the previous 2 figures without the 8720 9 Volt Power Pack Technic set.

All sets are labeled.
