Tablet PC and graphics tablets

These devices allow one to draw or write (directly or indirectly) on a computer screen.

  1. A graphics tablet consists of a flat surface on which the user draws with a stylus. The resulting image displays on a computer screen. Wacom is best-known for them.
  2. A tablet PC is a laptop computer, the screen of which reacts to a stylus or fingertip. Its operating system includes handwriting recognition, so keyboard input is optional. A tablet PC is small and lightweight; it runs Windows and all the usual applications.

Use in teaching & learning

Some instructors use a tablet to replace writing on a chalkboard. Tablet PCs are easy to carry around a classroom and can connect wirelessly to a projector. Graphics tablets are great for creating detailed drawings.
