Podcasting & iTunes University
A podcast is a series of digital audio or video files available for download via syndication. Software like Apple iTunes automatically identifies and retrieves new episodes as they become available. Files are stored on a computer and can be synced to a media player.
Producing an audio podcast requires a recording device and editing software, such as Audacity. Websites like PodBean offer limited free space for hosting a podcast.
Apple's iTunes University contains over 100,000 lectures, language lessons, audiobooks, and other items provided by colleges, universities, museums and other organizations around the world. Some materials are restricted to a particular institution or course.
Use in teaching & learning
A podcast can be used to share news and tips related to a course. Record class sessions (in whole or in part) and make them available for review. Students can create a podcast as an alternative to writing a paper. A class can create a series of podcasts on works of art. A podcast player can be embedded into a page on a website or in Concourse.
NotreDame info
Notre Dame has two "faces" in iTunes University: a public one that shares Notre Dame’s stories with the world, and a private one for internal audiences (like classes).
