A podcast is a collection of audio or video files accessible via RSS feed.

STEP1: Create a sound file

    • Cell phone or other mobile device

Recording caveats

  • Pick a quiet time and location / Prepare and test
  • Monitor volume and background noise - see sound examples
  • Record a few seconds of dead time at the beginning and the end
  • Record through errors and re-takes
  • Get a signed release, if necessary

STEP 2: Publish the podcast

Syndicate: hosting

  • Determine host - see "Common options" below
  • Upload MP3 file(s)

Publicize: directory or access point

Play: podcast client, "podcatcher"

  • Dedicated - Juice, open source podcatcher
  • Multipurpose - iTunes
  • Widget - embedded in web page - e.g., NPR

Common options

  1. iTunes - publicize, play
  2. Blog (WordPress or Blogger) - syndicate, play
  3. Personal web space - post an MP3 in ND space for a WordPress blog
  4. Simple sound recording/storage options
