Google Calendar
Users of this service have private calendars and may choose to subscribe to others, such as a course calendar. A shared calendar can be used to publicize the dates and times of events. Users other than the owner can be allowed to enter and edit items - or not. A Google Calendar can sync with a number of other calendar systems. There are also other calendaring services with similar capabilities.
Use in teaching & learning
Course calendars can list assignment due dates, exams, review sessions, holidays, special events, project milestones, and more. Viewing all of the key course events in a calendar format may help students to budget their time. A number of Notre Dame faculty have created a Google Calendar for a course and embedded into Concourse.

Notre Dame has a contract with Google for student email. Students thereby have access to "Google Apps for Education," but Google Calendar is also freely available to the public.
