Digital photography, Flickr and Picasa Web
This refers to the use of digital cameras to capture still images and transfer them to a computer. Computer programs, such as Apple's iPhoto, can help catalog a collection of digital images, and you can use image editing software like PhotoShop to sharpen images, change color balance, remove scratches, etc. Photos can also be shared online at sites like Flickr; it contains over seventy million images and many are available through a Creative Commons license. A Flickr image can be embedded in a page on a website or in Concourse. There are other services, such as Google's Picasa Web with similar capabilities.
Use in teaching & learning
Instructors can use their own digital images from the field to illustrate points in class. Students can capture images themselves as part of a project. Images from third parties can be found on photo-sharing websites and used by either instructors or students as examples or to illustrate concepts.
