Concourse (Blackboard Vista CMS)
Concourse is Notre Dame's Course Management System (CMS) which runs on Blackboard Vista. It is a set of tools that help a faculty member create a web site for a class. The instructor provides the content and Concourse supplies structure, interactivity, and management. The tools include
- Content - web links or any type of document
- Discussion - threaded online bulletin boards
- Quizzes and anonymous surveys
- Grade book (students only see their own grades)
- Assignments - collect work online
- (full list of tools)
We have created a sample course where you can see ways the system can be used. After you enroll it appears on your list of courses in Concourse.
Use in teaching & learning
Because there are many tools, there are many possibilities. Here are a few:
- Use the quiz tool for pre-class reading checks
- The grade book tool is popular in teach large classes
- Distribute materials, such as a course syllabus
- Students can pose questions in a discussion
