Scientific Outreach to the Community

The LCLS research team believes in the importance of outreach to the local community. Outreach functions as a tool to showcase evolving progress in scientific research and a service to introduce tomorrow's young scientists to the rewarding challenges in science and engineering.

We are currently working with the faculty and administration at LaSalle Intermediate Academy to introduce 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to the scientific field of Computational Biology; integrating topics in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

During our most recent interactive presentation with the students, these slides were presented to motivate current research projects.

Students were introduced to the award winning "BiologyForEngineers" courseware.

The Protein Data Bank and MolView were utilized to visualize proteins.

Advance analysis techniques were presented utilizing the Visual Molecular Dynamics software.
