Geoff Gisler (NDLS '06), an associate attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center, and Stephen Studer, a partner in the South Bend office of the law firm Plews, Shadley, Racher & Braun will speak on their experiences as practicing environmental lawyers in the public and private sectors, respectively. Lunch will be served.

Spotlight on a Public Interest Lawyer: Rudy Monterrosa

PILF is hosting Rudy Monterrosa to speak about his legal career in public interest. The son of immigrant parents, Rodolfo Monterrosa hails from sunny Southern California. He received his bachelor's degree from Stanford and graduated from NDLS in 2001. As a solo practitioner, he practices mostly in the area of criminal and immigration law. He is the Supervisor for the Deputy Public Defenders in St. Joseph County Traffic & Misdemeanor Court where he serves as one of two bilingual deputy public defenders. He sits on the Hispanic Alumni Board of Notre Dame as well as the Board for La Casa de Amistad. Recently, he was appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court to its Commission on Race & Gender Fairness.

Ground-Blessing Ceremony

The Law School community faculty, staff, and students are invited to a short ground-blessing ceremony in connection with construction of the new Eck Hall of Law November 9th, at 3:15 p.m. The ceremony will be held at a canopy set up for this purpose on the perimeter of the construction site.
The ground-blessing ceremony is scheduled during the visit of the members of the Law School Advisory Council, a number of whom contributed generously to the building project. Father John Coughlin of our faculty will give the blessing. We are hoping that our president, provost and executive vice-president Father John Jenkins, Dr. Tom Burish, and Dr. John Affleck-Graves will be able to join us at the ceremony. The ceremony should last about 20 minutes. Attire is regular class day.
Following the ceremony, all members of the Law School community are invited to a reception in the Student Lounge. I hope that you will be able to join us as we celebrate the commencement of our building project.
