Little Dusks
But how to look outside
for help: the terror
in the diamond-head,
the possibility
in the water lily.
Some bodies are just bodies,
you must leave them
to love their thick shadows.
And I loved that other
when it came through the door,
loved its way of letting
the soul drift about inside…
After dinner we flick the switch
and little dusks
look up
from the edges like cave light.
Perhaps what we need looks up
as we deliver a glass
of wine
to the table, looks up,
as the soul knows to do
before blooming,
as the flickering
body calls out
from the edge of the lake.
