New Report Released Wednesday, November 16
The Institute is pleased to announce the release of The State of Latino Chicago 2010: The New Equation. Based on the most recent US Census data, the report examines the contribution of Latinos to the Chicago-area economy through their labor participation, business ownership, and the impact of their spending power. The chief finding of the report is that Chicago-area Latinos contribute almost $1.2 billion more in tax revenues than they cost in the delivery of public services like education, health care, and public safety. Latinos are at once the oldest and the newest immigrant population in our country. They are expected to account for over 25% of the US population by 2050, and even now, as the numbers above demonstrate, they represent one of the most significant factors for social change in our nation. What is the significance of the growth of this population? What does the future hold for the nation as a whole? The Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame is committed to finding answers that will best prepare the nation to meet the future.
