The web description of the Westin Kid’s club (http://www.westin.com/cgi/t3.cgi/main.taf?lc=en&sec=hot&sub=wkc) seems to underestimate it. They have several good ideas that could help make your stay with children as easy as possible.
1. There is a "paint your own pottery place" in the hotel (It is called "Color on Clay", 213-896-0078), that could diffuse a lot of kid energy.
2. There is a "hands-on" childrens' museum within a short cab ride or a long walk away.
3. The LA Central Library is within walking distance.
4. There is a bus called "Dash" which makes a loop around down town and goes to a lot of places that could be good to go with kids.
