The Program in Religion, Conflict and Peacebuilding (PRCP)

The PRCP is an interdisciplinary, inter-religious initiative that explores the complex roles of religious communities and movements in contemporary conflcts.

Research Initiative on the Resolution of Ethnic Conflict (RIREC)
RIREC examines ways to create a sustainable, just peace after a period of protracted ethnic conflict, particularly focusing on issues of violence, youth, and transitional justice.

The Sanctions and Security Project
A joint effort of the Kroc Institute and Fourth Freedom Forum, this examines multiple aspects of the use of economic sanctions and incentives and advises international policymakers.

Other research themes

Individual research by Kroc Institute faculty fellows is clustered around several key themes:

Dynamics of conflict and conflict transformation
Faculty members explore the cultural and political dynamics of conflict and conflict transformation from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives.

Ethics and the use of force
Building on Notre Dame's extensive resources in ethics, Kroc faculty give particular attention to pacifist and just war perspectives, as well as the ethics of international intervention.

Peacemaking role of norms, policies, and institutions
Faculty have a longstanding interest in the role of international institutions and international politics in increasing compliance with fundamental norms of peace and human rights.

Social, economic, and environmental justice
Researchers examine the role of nongovernmental organizations, commercial enterprises, and states in fostering sustainable economic development, respect for human rights, nonviolent social change, and protection of the environment.
