This course is designed to address key operations issues in
manufacturing and service organizations.
Students will be able to identify and evaluate the key factors in the
design of effective processes for the production of goods and services and what
such successful firms as Wal-Mart, UPS, Dell and Toyota have done to make their
operations excellence the source of their competitive success. The course also covers a range of tools
appropriate for the analysis of processes.
Student participation will be encouraged with the discussion of current
events and the analysis of cases.
MGT 30610: Programming
Fundamentals
This course introduces students to the concepts of computer programming. Fundamentals of program development is emphasized including top-down design; Object-orient event-driven programming; Debugging, testing and implementation of computer software. Although the Visual Basic (VB) language is used in this course, particular attention will be given to the development of problem solving skills using any programming language. The students are expected at the end of this course to have refined their critical thinking skills, be able to determine the type of problems that can be solved most effectively using each type of computer programming methodologies, and design and implement computer programs to solve real life problems.
MGT 30660: Strategic IT Applications
This course exposes the students to how technology
is being used to the change the competitive landscape within industries and
among corporations. By examining a set of cases, the students learn how some
businesses have transformed the competitive environment through the use of
technology. The students then will be
required to research how a specific company has used technology to enhance its
competitiveness or how an emerging technology can potentially be used to
provide a strategic advantage. The final
project in the class involves examining the potential impact of such technology
on the business models within a specific industry. In addition to learning about the strategic
potential of the use of technology, the students will enhance their
communication skills through the presentations and written reports required in
this course.
MGTI 40690: ITM Capstone Course
To gain direct
experience by fulfilling responsibilities for an actual consulting engagement
and gain some real life experience in handling client communications,
requirements planning, vendor selection, systems design & implementation,
and many other aspects of consulting projects.
MGT 60740: Technology & Business
This course exposes the students to how technology
is being used to the change the competitive landscape within industries and
among corporations. By examining a set of cases, the students learn how some
businesses have transformed the competitive environment through the use of
technology. The students then will be
required to describe their relationship with the IT department at the company
the had worked and describe an IT strategic initiative there. The students will also be asked to research
newer technologies that might impact companies in the near future. The final
project in the class involves examining the potential impact of such technology
on the business models within a specific industry.
