Parrot Helpline

Parrot Help Line was established in 1998. It is my mission to help parrot caregivers understand their birds and enable them to bring their relationship to its full potential. If there is a problem, I would like to help solve it, if there is a question, I would like to help answer it--if I can't, I'll find someone who can. Today there are in excess of 8000 unwanted birds in sanctuaries and that is not counting those languishing in corners, cages, basements and garden shacks. There are numerous reasons for this tragedy:
  1. unweaned or improperly weaned birds;
  2. improper environments;
  3. insufficient education about the intricacies of parrot keeping.
There are hundreds of unscrupulous breeders who are in it for the money only and have no regard for and knowledge about the creatures they are responsible for--contributing to this misery every single day. Not buying from a reputable breeder, ignorance about the maintenance and socialization requirements of a pet parrot is an invitation for failure. Parrots are not just a "pretty face." Parrots are basically wild animals who need very special care and unlimited understanding.

DO YOU WANT TO GET A PARROT AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER?

OR

DO YOU ALREADY HAVE A PARROT AND NEED SOME ADVICE?

  • Your bird suddenly picks his feathers
  • Your baby started hollering, it has become ornery, antisocial and lots more
  • Precious is biting and doesn't want to leave the cage
  • Precious doesn't want to go back into the cage
  • The bird thinks he owns the house and scares the bejeezus out of your guests
  • Mr. Personality doesn't like Grandma
  • Jekyll and Hyde, your bird's behavior changed
  • Seed or no seed, pellets or no pellets--what's best
  • Why no avocados
  • The rainbow diet and why
  • Teflon kills and other unexpected dangers

Just a few of the ever recurring questions....

Do yourself and your bird a favor--DON'T wait. Parrots are very special creatures. They are funny, extremely intelligent, emotional, sensitive. They deserve our respect, our love and our understanding for their individual characteristics and needs. Many people have devoted their lives to studying these feathered miracles of nature. It is their goal to help us create parrot friendly environments. There are web pages and up-to-date books on the subject. They are an absolutely essential tool for every bird owner and responsible breeder. If you let me know, I'll give you a list.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER BUY AN UNWEANED BABY.

Our birds are NOT "a kind of a feather." They are unique and individually require respect and understanding.

If you have a problem or a question, e-mail me at any time, I would like to help you--and the bird--NO charge--if you want to talk about a problem you are having with your bird, give me your telephone number. I'll call you back.
