Marx, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, was the paper's Havana bureau chief from 2002–07, covering Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, and Haiti. He previously served as the newspaper's South America correspondent from 1990 to 1994 and also worked as an investigative and city reporter specializing in criminal justice issues. He is the Hewlett Visiting Fellow at the Kellogg Institute (spring 2008). In October, Marx received the 2007 Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University for his coverage of Cuba. His other awards include the Inter-American Press Association Human Rights Award, the Associated Press Managing Editor's Public Service Award, and a Citation of Excellence from the Overseas Press Club. Marx was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting. In 2001, he was a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University.Cecilia V. Vaisman is currently a guest scholar at the Kellogg Institute. A freelance radio producer, Vaisman is co-founder of Homelands Productions, a nonprofit journalism cooperative, and a former NPR staff producer. She has produced radio features and documentaries from Latin America, South Asia, and the US, reporting extensively on human rights, women's and indigenous issues, the environment, and development. In fall 2007, she was a Hewlett Visiting Fellow. Vaisman’s awards include two Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards, an Armstrong Award, the Harry Chapin World Hunger Award, a Clarion Award, and two National Federation of Community Broadcasters Awards. |
