Classroom Diversity:  Learning from Difference

Description:

Participants in this workshop will discuss how different dimensions of diversity (gender, race, religion, culture, skill/ability levels, learning preferences) can affect the classroom experience for students and instructors. Through guided discussion and case scenario analysis, we will consider helpful practices for navigating situations where differences challenge our assumptions about teaching, learning, students, and ourselves.

    • Articulate the connection between their understanding of diversity and their philosophy of teaching
    • Identify different types of diversity and how they can impact teaching and learning
    • Apply strategies for addressing diversity in the classroom
