Classroom power dynamics between and among faculty, teaching assistants, and students greatly influence the teaching and learning process. This workshop, designed as a panel discussion, will feature experienced faculty members and teaching assistants who will identify the various ways perceptions of power manifest themselves in the classroom and offer insights on the following questions:
- What are examples of proactive and reactive strategies for approaching different classroom situations?
- Is establishing authority in the classroom important? If so, what strategies are helpful for establishing and maintaining authority?
- In what ways do you successfully navigate the difference between private and public discourse both inside and outside of the classroom?
- What resources are available to faculty and teaching assistants when addressing power dynamics in the classroom?
