Professor Stanisic was born in West Lafayette, Indiana and raised in and near Chicago, Illinois. He attended Purdue University from 1975 to 1986, earning a Bachelor of Science,
Masters and PhD in Mechanical Engineering. His teaching and research specialization has always been kinematics of motion. He was an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering
Dept. of the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 he joined
the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Dept. at the University of Notre Dame at the
rank of Assistant Professor and in 1993 was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.
Dr. Stanisic serves as Faculty Advisor to the student chapters of both ASME and SAE.
He has served as the Faculty Advisor to four undergraduates who have won rst prizes in
national student design competitions. Most notable was Karl Etzel, class of 1994, who was
the recipient of the BF Goodrich Collegiate Inventors Award. In 1988 he was a nalist for the
Silver Circle Award for Excellence in Teaching (a University level award at the University of
Illinois at Chicago). At the University of Notre Dame he has received the AME Departmental
Teaching Award in 1991 and 1996, the College of Engineering Outstanding Teacher Award
in 1995, the Kaneb Teaching Award in 2001, the Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Excellence
in Teaching in 2003 and in 2007 one of twenty initial recipients of the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce
Award for Excellence in Teaching.
