I am fascinated with how microbes colonize surfaces. Here at the University of Notre Dame, I work with my colleagues in The Department of Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences, The Department of Biological Sciences, and other departments to study microbe interactions important to human health, the environment, and engineered systems.
Prior to arriving at Notre Dame, I was a post-doc with Matt Parsek in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington where we studied bacterial community processes, namely the development of attached-growth biofilms and cell-to-cell communication (called quorum sensing). Before joining Matt's lab I completed my Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with Gene Parkin at the University of Iowa.
