Notre Dame Boy's Summer Basketball Camps Staff

John MacLeod:
The Notre Dame Summer Basketball Camp is under the direction of Irish head coach John MacLeod, one of the most respected mentors in the world of basketball. Coach MacLeod is entering his sixth year at the helm of Irish basketball and he led his 1991-92 squad to the finals of the National Invitation Tournament. In addition, he helped make former Notre Dame stars LaPhonso Ellis and Monty Williams lottery draft picks in the NBA. No stranger to the NBA himself, MacLeod coached the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns for a combined 18 seasons. He is only one of nine coaches to ever win 700 games in the NBA. He was also the head coach at the University of Oklahoma for six seasons prior to going to the NBA. Coach MacLeod's hands-on approach to the camp's daily activities and his nationally renowned "mass drill" with the campers has proved very successful over the past five summers.
"We provide our campers with the opportunity to develop their individual skills, and also compete in a team setting in a great campus environment here at Notre Dame," MacLeod says. "It's a chance to meet new friends and be part of the Notre Dame family."
Fran McCaffery:
Fran begins his ninth year at Notre Dame. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Fran has had prior coaching experience at Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania. As the head coach of Lehigh, Fran led the Engineers to an East Coast Conference title and an appearance in the 1988 NCAA Tournament. His responsibilities include scouting of opponents, recruiting and assisting Coach MacLeod in practice sessions.
Parker Laketa:
Parker is entering his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Notre Dame men's basketball team. A 1985 graduate of Kansas State, Laketa earned a degree in social science and education. He was a two-time letterman at Kansas State before knee injuries sidelined him his remaining two years. Before coming to Notre Dame, Laketa served as an assistant coach for three seasons at Western Michigan University and three seasons at Illinois State, where he earned his master's degree in education. At Notre Dame his duties with Irish basketball include recruiting, scouting of opponents and assisting Coach MacLeod in practice sessions.
Terry Tyler:
Terry is a graduate of the University of Detroit and is still the school's fifth all-time leading scorer. Following his senior season, Terry earned All-American honors and had his uniform number, No. 44, retired by the school. Tyler went on to an 11-year career in the National Basketball Association playing for the Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks where he played under John MacLeod. Following his NBA career, Tyler played three seasons in Italy and most recently was the sports coordiantor at the North Town YMCA in Dallas. At Notre Dame Terry will be involved in scouting of opponents and practice routine as well as being involved in the Notre Dame Summer Sports Camp. The 1995-96 season is Terry's first at the University of Notre Dame.
