3 Years Postdoctoral Position in the Physics Group

Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL)
France

July 12, 2010

We are opening a position for a motivated candidate who would be sharing his/her interests between technical developments for the production of Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs) and the physics program being pursued at GANIL.

Since 2001, SPIRAL at GANIL has been delivering radioactive ion beams from gaseous elements of unique intensity and purity for physics experiments. Very recently, a project of upgrade was formed to complement the future SPIRAL 2 radioactive ion beam production capabilities. The SPIRAL upgrade project essentially consists in the development a 1+ to n+ charge breeding system which will permit the post-acceleration of metallic elements produced in heavy ion fragmentation by combining state of the art ion sources such as a FEBIAD developed at CERN-ISOLDE and a Phoenix ECR charge breeder developed by LPSC Grenoble. These technical developments are expected to translate rapidly to new opportunities for physics. These latter include physics with non - accelerated beams as a precursor to physics at the planned DESIR facility, or experiments using post-accelerated beams studying various aspects of nuclear structure, reactions of astrophysics relevance and reaction mechanisms.

The position has a duration of 3 years and has to start at latest on 1st of October this year. It is intended for candidates with a PhD thesis with less than 6 years of postdoctoral experience. More information is available on request from Pierre Delahaye: delahaye@ganil.fr.

Interested candidates should apply before 30th of July sending a CV and a letter of motivation to Pierre Delahaye: delahaye@ganil.fr.
