Fontevraud, an abbey near Chinon became the favorite of the Plantagenets, and Elinor of Acquitaine received the veil there after the death of her husband Henry the II. The four gisants, or effigies, lying before the sacristry are Elinor herself and her husband Henry the II Plantagenet, Richard the Lionhearted, their son, and Isabelle of Angoulème. The kitchens (a second site with lots of pictures ) are the only examples of Romanesque style to have survived in France.
