Music in Angers
One can pursue a variety of music-related activities, lessons, and performance opportunities in Angers. Here is a short list, based on the experience of Nicole Levesque, SUNDEF 37, of things one can do at the Conservatory (Conservatoire National de la Région, à la Maison des Arts, avenue Montaigne, Angers). Violin lessons: University level lessons under professor Mme Anne Chevallereau: Orchestra: Under direction of M. Lowry (recent performance: Hummel and Shubert) Trio: Piano, flute, and violin (Nicole), under the direction of Mme Vendôme Choir: Even if you're not a trained singer, you can join the choir.
Message from Nicole: For all those music majors out there who want to go abroad, but don't for fear of not being able to keep up with their music, Angers, France is the place for you! You definitely CAN keep up with your music here. Dr. Lowry, Director of the conservatory, is a very nice, helpful Englishman (he's very proud of that!) who is looking to welcome more international students. And even if your French "isn't that great," the professors here are very patient.
Additionally, I play my violin at L'Eglise St Laud, a Catholic church in Angers. So far, I've played most Sundays, Youth Mass, special prayer events, and I've been asked to play at a wedding in June! MUSIC PEOPLE, ANGERS IS FOR YOU! (and it's great for everyone else too
