Karaoke Night
Feb 13th, 2009 (Friday) Doors open at 4pm
A night filled with music as we bring the very popular pastime to our campus! All music was sung in Japanese and food was provided. Members had the chance to try their hand at folding their own sushi with our girls from Nanzan before testing their voices. In addition to our music, we encouraged all who attended to help us out with our service project this year, Senbatsuru, or 1000 Cranes. In the name of Father Minamiki, and with your help, we will bring the finished product to the children's ward of a local hospital as a token of our sympathy for their suffering.
LOCATION: 3rd Floor of Debartolo in the new language center!
MOVIE SHOWING: Linda Linda Linda リンダリンダリンダ
Early December
We teamed up with the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Professor Shamoon's "Cruelty of Youth" class to bring the members of the Japan club this entertaining and insightful movie about a girls' rock band and the larger meaning of the role/image of women in Japan.
Welcome Party
Oct. 10th 2008 (Friday) 6:30pm
This year we are especially priviledged to have with us at Notre Dame three students studying abroad for the entire school year from Nanzan University in Nagoya. They are all staying on-campus and are surely dealing with plenty of culture shock as they adjust to living here. To recognize their coming to America and to help ease the effects of the shock we hosted a Welcome Party in their name. Sushi, Chik-Fil-A, snacks, tea, dessert, posters, and music was provided for enjoyment by our group's members. (You MUST have been a member or a student studying Japanese culture/language to attend) We even made our own Onigiri!
LOCATION: COMO Main Lounge
Tea Ceremony
Nov. 2nd 2008 (Sunday)
The club, in conjuction with the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures and Hanabusa-Sensei, we hosted a truly unique experience on campus. We invited a professor from out of state to come in and demonstrate to us the ancient Japanese art of the Tea Ceremony.
Note: Free for all dues-paying members
Movie Showing: "RAJIO NO JIKAN" May 1st, 2008 (Thursday) 7pm 126DBRT
Come join us as we watch "Welcome Back Mr. McDonald" (English Title). It has praised by many as one of the funniest films they have seen. The fast-paced, constantly changing scenes, characters that are "a delight to watch", and a radio sound-effects expert make this movie all about how, "a minute action can ignite a catasrophy" and the hilarious reactions of a late-night radio-show crew. Directed by Koki Mitani with leading actors Toshiaki Karasawa, Kyouka Suzuki, Masahiko Nishimura, Keiko Toda, and Jun Inoue. 103 min.

Haru Matsuri: April 13th, 2008 (Sunday) 1-3pm
It's time again for the biggest Japan Club event of the year. A celebration of the culture, music, food, and people of Japan. This event is free and open to the public. We will be serving sushi and snacks, various posters will be provided by Japanese language students, and there will be a Wii and karaoke to keep everyone entertained.
Location: Dooley Room, LaFortune
Oct. 1st, 2007 (Monday) at 8:00pm.
We watched Battle Royale (バトルローヤル), 2000, directed by Kinji Fukasaku. We had signups for various events such as the rice bowl, the concession stand, etc. and an update about T-shirt production/sales.
Location: Stanford Basement
Concession Stand: Oct 13th, 2007.
The annual Japan Club concession stand. Its a great way to be a part of the football experience.
Location: In front of the former Center for Social Concerns
The Rice Bowl: November 2007
The greatest football tournament ever with the requirement of "you must have at least 6 Asian players on the field at all times. Hence "rice" bowl). Our previous record is appalling and we're looking to upset. If not he will probably find a way to make you play anyway.
Service project: 千羽鶴 - One Thousand Cranes
In the spring we are planning our greatest service project ever: the making of one thousand cranes which will then be donated to a local hospital, following the myth that one who makes one thousand cranes will be granted one wish or cured of sickness. And if everyone in the club makes 3 cranes, plus all the people taking Japanese we'll have a thousand cranes in no time. |
