“Free Expression Knows No Borders,” IFRT’s Toronto Program in a Nutshell

Carolyn Caywood

Dr Marianna Tax Choldin reviewed the state of intellectual freedom world wide and those organizations involved in advocating change. She explained that “access for all” is an acceptable euphemism for “intellectual freedom” in countries that are not comfortable with our preferred phrase.

Dr. Michael Geist contrasted views of different nations on what actions foster liberty of thought. He urged respect for different nations’ laws showing that sometimes, as in Canada’s cyber-squatter regulation, other countries have offered more protection than the Unites States has.

A provocative program. Tapes are available from ALA.
