ALA IFC/OIF Intellectual Freedom Manual Project 2014

Draft Revisions: Interpretations of ALA's Library Bill of Rights

At its Spring Meeting, March 28-30, 2014, the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee completed its latest round of work on proposed revisions to thirteen Interpretations of the Library Bill of Rights (listed below). We will bring these items to Council at ALA's Annual Conference this summer in Las Vegas. Our goal is to have updated versions included in the 9th edition of the Intellectual Freedom Manual scheduled for publication in the summer of 2015. Marked up versions of each of these documents (along with clean versions) are available in Connect and on this site.

Please review these documents and send us your suggestions for further improvements at your convenience but, if at all possible, by Monday, June 2. Comments may be entered in Connect, sent to myself as IFC Chair at archer.1@nd.edu, or sent to Nannett Perez, Office for Intellectual Freedom Program Officer, at nperez@ala.org. As has been its custom, the IFC is making copies of these documents available to all Councilors and to as many other stakeholders as possible for review and comment. We will further revise them in light of your suggestions, take them to Council Forum at Annual Conference and lastly bring them to Council III for approval.

In addition, we are continuing to work on a new interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights, "Internet Filtering," and will post it to Connect when it is ready for wider review.

We look forward to receiving your suggestions.

Thank you in advance,

Doug
