INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

RESOURCE CENTER
world

The International Studies Resource Center is located on the second floor of the Hesburgh Library on the campus of The University of Notre Dame. Affiliated with both the Reference Department, and Government Documents Center, the ISRC houses a collection of subject specific material for the study and advancement of international politics, economics and human rights.

Primarily devoted to news related sources, the ISRC 's main collection is a Clipping Collection dating back to 1961. The events of the Cold War are highlighted here, as are the events preceding and succeeding the fall of the Berlin Wall. All countries of the world are covered, with emphasis on each country's politics as they relate to global ramifications, human rights and the growing global economy.

Since January 1, 1998, the Clipping Collection  has migrated from the paper copies to an online resource found within this site. This nature of the collection is the same. It does, however, provide access to more newspapers from around the globe, thereby widening our focus. Click here to go to the Clipping Collection On-line.

In order to better serve specific undergraduate research on The Americas, Western Europe, and Asia, we have added a new page devoted to links covering the politics and cultures of these regions. Please go to the Subject Page  to see the links. (The links are updated regularly. So please come back often!)

If you need access to information not found in the Clipping Collection, please try the following resource:

The newspapers from which we clip are:

The Electronic Clipping Service (ECS) allows us to clip from a wider variety of sources. Presently, however, we are unable to clip from French sources, but will hopefully do so shortly. The philosophy behind the ECS is to download from sources worldwide to provide comprehensive coverage of major events around the world. We therefore include papers from Israel, China (whenever possible), Latin America (or The Miami Herald which covers Latin America extensively), Africa, Canada, and Ireland. In the future, an even wider range of sources will be evaluated, and their articles downloaded for the ECS.

If you wish to read more about what is happening around the globe. Try the following news sources, as well: horizontal line

The ISRC also receives documents from various worldwide organizations, such as:

As more such organizations appear on the World Wide Web, they will also appear here on the ISRC homepage.

Accessing global information has never been easier, and if you want to find out more, stay tuned. As more sites are published relating to world events, they will be linked here. But for now, try these:

For information about Latin America, turn to the Kellogg Institue. There you will find many links to Latin American resources.
