
Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh, professor of history at the National University of Ireland, Galway, will give a lecture at the University of Notre Dame’s annual “Why Irish?” colloquium that brings international speakers to campus to examine the role of the Irish language in various disciplines.
The lecture is hosted by the Department of Irish Language and Literature and is open to the public, It will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, 21st September in the Hesburgh Center Auditorium. Professor Ó Tuathaigh’s lecture is titled “Language Change, the State and National Identity in Ireland Since the Great Famine.”
