Keough-Naughton Internship Program

The generosity of Ireland Council members made it possible to award six internships in Dublin to promising rising seniors this summer. Drawn from a field of three dozen highly qualified applicants, this year’s interns were an extremely accomplished group of students. Margaret Emilee Booth helped at with Combat Poverty; Maria Paula Elizondo worked with the EU Commission; Mallory Meecham interned with an architectural firm; Gary Nijak researched water purification engineering at Dublin City University; Kelly Clancy assisted the service program Goal; and Stephen Iwanski learned about the arts firsthand at the Pavilion Theatre.

The Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies annually awards Irish Internships which place Notre Dame Juniors in positions in Dublin, Ireland relating to politics, commerce, culture and society. The Internships last for a period of seven weeks each summer during which time the students are under the guidance of an Internship Coordinator in the Keough-Notre Dame Centre, Dublin; the successful candidates receive a) a round-trip airfare from the United States to Ireland; b) accommodation, and c) a living allowance for the duration of their stay. Previous Interns have been placed in

    • Archaeological field work

    Pavilion Theatre
    Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament)
    • Head office of Fine Gael, a political party
