Notre Dame hosts Fulbright Irish Language workshop

The Department of Irish Language and Literature in cooperation with Fulbright and the International Educational Exchange organized an orientation for all five of the Irish-langauge Foreign Language Teaching Assistants, offering the teachers introductions to language methodology, university practices, and United States culture prior to taking up positions at New York University, Boston College and University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. The workshop, sponsored by the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning, was directed by Professor Brian Ó Conchubhair. At a banquet hosted by President Emertius Edward “Monk” Malloy, C.S.C., Irish Government Minister Eamon Ó Cuív gave his best wishes to the future instructors as they begn this first-ever Irish language outreach program and commended Notre Dame for its highly successful program in Irish language and literature. As a further mark of success, Fulbright has requested that Notre Dame host this event again next year.
