As a student at John Cabot University (JCU), you will find yourself in one of the most stimulating environments available to any undergraduate anywhere in the world. The picturesque Trastevere neighborhood becomes the campus when school is in session. Students congregate in local cafes, or head to one of the local trattorias for a pizza, a panino, or a dish of pasta. An important part of attending JCU is the interaction with faculty, staff, and other students that takes place outside the classroom.

Program of Study

In the fall of 2001, the University of Notre Dame in conjunction with John Cabot University began operating an undergraduate program in Rome for students from the Colleges of Arts & Letters, Business, Science and Engineering. The Notre Dame School of Architecture will continue to operate its Rome Studies Program for architecture majors independently.

John Cabot is a private, independent, four-year university in the Eternal City with strong ties to the American educational experience. It is located in the center of Rome in the historic Trastevere quarter, a few steps from the Tiber River, the Villa Farnesina — a lavish Renaissance palace — and the Botanical Gardens of the University of Rome.

Courses completed at JCU will be entered onto the student's Notre Dame transcript and grades are computed into the Notre Dame grade point average. All students participating in the Rome program are required to enroll in at least one Italian language or literature course during their semester/year abroad.

Eligibility for the Program

The Rome program is open to sophomores and juniors. Students may apply for either semester or the academic year. The program is particularly suited to students in Art Studio, Art History, Classics, History, Italian, European Studies or Business. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA and at least two semesters of college-level Italian (or the equivalent) with an average grade of B or better. Application deadline for fall, spring and academic year is November 15.
