Milan, Italy

Location

Once a capital of the Roman Empire, Milan today is the commercial and financial center of contemporary Italy. In the Piazza Duomo, the heart of Milan, the architecture of past centuries blends with the neon lights of a modern metropolis. Classes are held at the Università Cattolica in the old city center, steps away from several of Milan’s historical buildings, monuments, and museums.

Program of Study

The six-week program (May 29 – July 6) offers 2 courses, worth 3 credits each. Students will enroll in both courses through the University of Notre Dame’s Summer Session. Alessia Blad, a native of Milan and a Visiting Professional Specialist in the Department of Romance Language and Literatures, will instruct a course entitled Discovering Leonardo da Vinci in Milano. This course is the equivalent of ROIT 24201. Local Italian faculty will teach a History course. Notre Dame students will receive Notre Dame credit for these courses and they will count towards the GPA.

Eligibility for the Program

Applicants must be full time students in good standing at the University of Notre Dame or St. Mary’s College. Students need to complete two semesters of Italian prior to participating in the program (either the 10101/10102 sequence or 10115). The application deadline is March 1, 2006.
