Please
follow these simple steps to ensure a complete application for study abroad:
BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE APPLICATION MATERIALS
- Application
Form & Statement of Objectives (on-line)
You can (and should!) save your application at any time and continue
to work on it later. The Statement of Objectives is one of the most
important parts of the application -- so take your time and think about
what you want to tell the Selection Committee.
- 2 Academic
References (requested on-line)
- 1 Rector Reference
(requested on-line)
- Parental Consent
(paper form)
- Academic Approvals
(requested in person). All sophomore,
junior and senior applicants must schedule separate meetings with their
academic advisor(s) AND an Associate/Assistant Dean. At these meetings,
you should be prepared to talk about your plans for study abroad and
how this will affect your ND curriculum. During or after the meetings,
your advisor and Dean will complete the on-line Academic Approval form.
Freshman applicants are exempt from this requirement.
DECIDE ON PROGRAM & SESSION
When you create a new application, you must select a session (fall, spring,
or academic year) which cannot be changed unless you delete the entire
application and start over. Think carefully about which session you would
like to attend before starting a new application. Please note that the
London Program has a separate application process.
All applicants have an opportunity to rank and change program rankings when submitting a completed application. Applicants who, for a compelling reason, decide to make changes to their program rank preferences may do so without penalty by January 5th for the November 15th deadline programs and by June 15th for the May 1 st deadline programs.
The procedures are as follows:
1) if on campus, visit the ISP office, 152 Hurley and fill out a ranking change form.
2) if not on campus due to University break, please e-mail Peggy Weber at mweber@nd.edu. You must list both your previous program ranking order and the newly requested program ranking.
Students will initially be considered for their first-choice programs. Students not accepted by their first-choice programs may be considered by the other programs to which they have applied in rank order, space permitting.
COMPLETE APPLICATION & SUBMIT
Remember the application deadline
and don't wait until the last minute to submit. Be sure to give your professors,
rector and academic approvers plenty of time to complete their part of
the application. Last minute requests are not looked upon favorably, especially
at the end of the semester. A face-to-face meeting is usually more welcome
(and, in the case of academic approvals, required) than an email or phone
call.
NOW WHAT DO I DO?
Now comes the hard part - waiting for a decision. After submitting
your application, you should check your application status page frequently
to make sure all references and academic approvals have been received.
We cannot evaluate your application file until all supporting documents
have been received. Our office will send decision letters to all applicants
in late Februrary-early March. Not all program decisions are made at the
same time, so please be patient. We will notify you as soon as a decision
has been made.
Applicants who confirm to acceptances for the November 15th deadline programs will still be subject to withdrawal policy fees if they choose to accept a May 1 st deadline program instead.
Wait-listed applicants have the following options:
- accept an offer from a 2nd or 3rd-choice program
- accept an offer from another program and also remain on the wait-list for the 1 st choice program (See withdrawal policy)
- decline offers from 2nd and 3rd-choice programs within the specified time in the notification letter and remain on the wait-list for the 1 st-choice program
