INCS ESSAY PRIZE FOR 2008


Interdisciplinary Nineteenth-Century Studies has awarded the 2007 Essay Prize to Marilyn Ruth Brown for her article . “‘Miss La La’s’ Teeth: Reflections on Degas and Race” (details below). Charles Laporte received an honorable mention for his “The Bard, the Bible, and the Victorian Shakespeare Question.”

Details on submissions for the 2008 prize will be forthcoming in the near future. The $500 prize recognizes excellence in interdisciplinary scholarship about any nineteenth-century topic or world region.

We encourage members of INCS to submit or nominate essays

§          That were written by current members of INCS

§          That were published in a book or journal in 2007

§          That make a significant addition to the field of nineteenth-century studies

Please send three paper copies of the nominated essay to prize committee chair by the date to be specified (early 2009).

The winner will be announced at the annual INCS conference, April 23-35, 2009.
